Job Description

General Summary

The Respiratory Therapist will provide education, exercise monitoring, and treatment procedures in order to rehabilitate persons with pulmonary limitations.  Provides comprehensive care to a variety of persons including adult and geriatric patients in both Outpatient Allied Health and Outpatient Physician Clinic settings, including pediatric monitoring as directed.

Principal Responsibilities



The Respiratory Therapist:

  1. Administers routine well-defined respiratory therapy such as oxygen, bronchial hygiene, nebulization, ventilatory support and other treatments as directed.
  2. Coordinates and provides education in self-care modes of pulmonary health, with appropriate documentation.
  3. Monitors and coordinates patient care supplies, equipment maintenance, calibration and charging.
  4. Works with the physical therapy department to safely monitor patients during testing and exercise.
  5. Provides education on community resources available to patients
  6. Plans and initiates home care planning.
  7. Coordinates enrollment in the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program including assuring clinical appropriateness and checking for required orders and medical information.
  8. Assists in any departmental equipment inquiries, statistical gathering, phone screening and marketing efforts, as directed.
  9. Performs all other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab.
      

Reporting Relationships

  1. Reports directly to assigned Clinical Manager 

Job Requirements

  1. Work requires the level of general education acquired through the completion of an Associate’s Degree.
  2. State of Illinois Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license required.
  3. Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) certification required. Certified Registered Respiratory Therapist (CRRT) preferred.
  4. Current CPR certification required.
  5. One to two years-related work experience including technical training in an accredited Respiratory Care Program 

Working Conditions

  1. Normal office environment with little or no exposure to dust or extreme temperature.
