General Summary

The Manager, Prospect Research will oversee a comprehensive donor-prospect research program, including identification and strategic research and analysis of top-tier donors and prospects, corporations, foundations, and key volunteers in support of the Advancement office. The Manager, Prospect Research will serve as a strategic member of the Advancement team to build, evaluate, maintain, and rate a qualified pool of prospects using wealth screening data and other available tools.

Principal Responsibilities



The Manager, Prospect Research will:

  1. Manage overall prospect research operations for Advancement office, with particular focus on conducting research related to major donor prospect identification and existing donor moves management through the development and oversight of activity tracking, reporting, and rating systems.
  2. Conduct biographical business, networking and financial research on individuals, boards, corporations and foundations using a variety of online services, databases, and other public information as well as internal sources.
  3. Evaluate a prospect’s financial capacity, ability to give, willingness to give, charitable interests and connection to the organization.
  4. Design and produce research profiles on existing major donors and prospects identified by Advancement, senior staff members and other institutional executive leaders for proactive and reactive prospecting.
  5. Assist with maintaining wealth ratings and updated contact information for all donors in MGOs’ portfolios.
  6. Serve on the Advancement team working to identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward major donors and prospects through active participation in and support of regularly scheduled planning, strategy, and review meetings.
  7. Support Grateful Patient Program fundraising program through ongoing monitoring of patient data, incorporating wealth screening and targeted research of current and former patients and their families.
  8. In collaboration with database operations staff, develop and oversee moves management, research, and rating systems in Raiser’s Edge database to support fundraising activities for major donors and prospects.
  9. Remain current, knowledgeable, and proficient on best practices in prospect research related to fundraising.
  10. Perform all other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab.


 

Reporting Relationships

  1. Reports directly to the Executive Director, Advancement Operations.

Job Requirements

  1. Bachelor’s degree and minimum of four years related experience, with healthcare fundraising background preferred.
  2. Knowledge, experience, and a successful track record in strategic prospect research practices to support not-for-profit fundraising programs.
  3. Working proficiency with web-based public and subscription research systems, including but not limited to DonorSearch, iWave, Lexis-Nexis, Guidestar, DonorScape, and other online tools.
  4. Working proficiency with relational fundraising databases (preferably Raiser’s Edge) and prospect screening/rating systems.
  5. Extensive experience and knowledge in conducting in depth internet searches to produce meaningful reports.
  6. Ability to gather, read, analyze, and interpret complex data and transform that information into research reports and other documents to support major gift fundraising activities.
  7. Ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of individuals both orally and written. Advanced writing skills, attention to detail, and critical thinking skills to develop research reports, donor profiles and other supporting documents.
  8. Exceptional interpersonal skills to foster strong working relationships with internal and external constituents. Self-motivated and well organized.
  9. Ability to plan, organize and prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  10. Demonstrated customer service experience requiring a very high level of diplomacy, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  11. Knowledge and experience with fundraising campaign management functions for a not-for-profit organization is preferred.
  12. Experience in using business intelligence software such as Tableau.
  13. Working proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite including but not limited to Access database management and Excel platform tools including pivot tables.

Working Conditions

  1. Normal office environment with little or no exposure to dust or extreme temperature.
