General Summary

The Lead Exercise Physiologist will perform primarily as an Exercise Physiologist but will also assist with management of the SRAlab Fitness Center and Fitness Center Staff and oversee the safe delivery of quality exercise for Fitness Center participants in collaboration with the Manager, Adaptive Sports, Fitness and Therapeutic Recreation to guarantee continuity of quality of care. 

The Lead Exercise Physiologist will consistently demonstrate support of the SRAlab statement of Vision, Mission and Core Values by striving for excellence, contributing to the team efforts and showing respect and compassion for patients and their families, fellow employees, and all others with whom there is contact at or in the interest of the institute.

Principal Responsibilities

The Lead Exercise Physiologist will:

  1. Direct, supervise and monitor appropriate staffing/productivity of exercise physiologists at The SRAlab Fitness Center.
  2. Recruit, hire and coach staff to ensure optimal performance and talent match for each program.
  3. Oversee orientation, training and professional growth and development needs of staff.
  4. Conduct performance appraisals to ensure accurate and timely evaluations with input from Medical Directors and Attending Physicians, Allied Health Managers, colleagues within Adaptive Sports, Fitness and Recreation and others as appropriate.
  5. Ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  6. Participate in the development of operating and capital budgets and manage resources to budget and volume.
  7. Initiate and implement quality improvements in individual, team and organizational performance utilizing RICQI and other mechanisms; facilitate resolution of quality issues.
  8. Maintain current knowledge of clinical practices, community resources and payor trends and share that knowledge and skill as appropriate with staff.
  9. Participate in the development of an on-going evaluation and improvement of protocols and ensure staff understanding and compliance.
  10. Ensure that timely and high quality documentation is available for all participants in compliance with SRAlab documentation standards. 
  11. Maintain environment of care through personal and staff compliance with policies and procedures.
  12. Communicate effectively with participants, families and staff to ensure a high level of satisfaction and to prevent and resolve conflict in a timely manner. Manage participant feedback regarding individual exercise physiologists.
  13. Provide policy and practice leadership within the organization.
  14. Coordinate or assign designee to coordinate the SRAlab student intern program for The SRAlab Fitness Center.
  15. Perform all other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of SRAlab.

Reporting Relationships

  1. Reports directly to the Manager Adaptive Sports, Fitness and Therapeutic Recreation.

Job Requirements

  1. Professional knowledge of practice and supervision at a level generally acquired through a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology or related field from an approved school. A Master’s Degree is preferred.
  2. At least 2 years progressively responsible related clinical work experience (rehabilitation experience preferred) including supervisory experience, with demonstrated ability to organize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  3. Superior interpersonal skills necessary to provide leadership and communicate effectively with participants, families, and all levels of staff within the organization.
  4. Strong analytical skills required to assess, plan and implement strategies for successful management of The SRAlab Fitness Center.
