General Summary

The Research Intern - Biologics Core will assist with various activities to support one or more research projects. Responsibilities may include bench work, performing data collection and data processing, administrative duties, and literature searches.

Principal Responsibilities



The Research Intern will support research projects by assisting with one or more of the following activities:

  1. Learn and apply tools of molecular biology, cell biology, histology, genetics and druggability to identify mechanisms relating to muscle and/or nerve cell impairment in neurological conditions.
  2. Actively participate to weekly lab meetings, journal clubs and seminars.
  3. Build and maintain a well-organized and accountable journal of own laboratory protocols, experiments, results and analyses.
  4. Construct data tables, figures and preparation of materials for presentations.
  5. Conduct literature searches, copying and distributing articles as appropriate.
  6. Perform all other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab.

Reporting Relationships

  • Reports directly to the Principal Investigator, Dr. Andrea Domenighetti, but may be additionally mentored by a research assistant, depending on department structure.

Job Requirements

  1. Communication and scientific skills normally acquired through college-level coursework.
  2. Interest and knowledge in cell biology, molecular biology, genetics and/or biochemistry.
  3. Familiarity with medical terminology.
  4. Ability to accurately review and enter project data.
  5. Analytical ability required to prepare reports, maintains data inventory, and perform literature searches.
  6. Ability to strictly adhere to an approved written protocol.
  7. Interpersonal skills needed to interact effectively with patients, physicians and all Institute staff as well as to effectively work with supervisors from various research projects.

Working Conditions

  1. Normal office environment with little or no exposure to dust or extreme temperature.
