General Summary

Under supervision of the Director of the Center for Aphasia Research and Treatment, the Project Manager, Research - Aphasia will maintain the operation of research and clinical projects for the Center for Aphasia Research and Treatment, including the supervision of support staff. In addition, will coordinate the timing of activities necessary to bring overall projects to completion. Will assist with the development of program evaluation objectives, collaborate on the statistical analyses to be employed, oversee individual project progress, produce reports detailing results, and coordinate data collection. Will be responsible for the management and integrity of the project data.

Principal Responsibilities

The Project Manager, Research - Aphasia will:

  1. Coordinate the efforts of support and clinical staff in completing projects. Coordinate dissemination of information for research and clinical projects developed by the Center for Aphasia Research and Treatment, including updates in the IRB, eNotis, and
  2. Help determine the appropriate evaluation methodology, organization of data, and statistical procedures to be utilized.
  3. Supervise data collection and storage by clinical staff.
  4. Perform and interpret statistical analyses of resulting data.
  5. Prepare articles detailing evaluation results. Co-author publications explaining research projects.
  6. Use database software (Access); spreadsheet software; and word processing software to meet the specifications necessary for data collection and statistical analysis. Provide technical assistance in solving personal computer function and operation problems.
  7. Ensure project documents are complete and current.
  8. Manage day to day operational aspects of research and clinical projects within the Center for Aphasia Research and Treatment.
  9. Perform all other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of SRAlab.

Other Responsibilities

  1. Review literature pertinent to aphasia rehabilitation and methodology.
  2. Plan and implement subject recruitment and determination of assignment to a particular study.
  3. Create, prepare and ensure timeliness of clinical and research forms.

Reporting Relationships

  1. Reports directly to the Director of the Center for Aphasia Research and Treatment.

Job Requirements

  1. Work requires a professional level of knowledge in a behavioral or social science equivalent to that which is acquired through the completion of a Master's degree. PhD preferred.
  2. Knowledge of, and experience with, the clinical management of aphasia preferred.
  3. Knowledge of, and experience with, clinical research design and methodology, and data collection within a clinical setting.
  4. Interpersonal skills needed to effectively provide leadership with all levels of staff to maximize quality and efficiency of operations.
  5. Working knowledge of program evaluation methodology and statistical analysis and procedures.
  6. Experience in database design and graphical representation.
  7. Experience in authoring and publishing clinical research papers.
  8. Knowledge of clinical research ethics, procedures, subject protection, and IRB requirements.
  9. Communication skills necessary to interact on a daily basis with subjects.
  10. Advanced organizational skills necessary to efficiently prioritize and complete a variety of tasks.
  11. Ability to collaborate effectively in a team setting in order to maximize quality and efficiency of operations. Ability to put the team before the self.
  12. Experience in meeting and conference planning.
  13. Ability to set priorities and manage a heavy workload.
  14. Ability to take initiative; work independently and accountably in a positive manner.
  15. Ability to adapt and respond to changing priorities.
