Job Description


General Summary

The Marketing and Innovation department focuses on marketing, corporate planning, business development, decision support, market intelligence, public relations and communications for the Institute. The Market Analyst serves as a unique resource to the department by providing a breadth of capabilities to match the varying responsibilities of the department. The work of the Market Analyst will be integral to supporting growth of Shirley Ryan AbilityLab’s business as well as enhancing the communications among stakeholders. The primary responsibilities of the Market Analyst include quantitative and qualitative aspects of business planning and marketing in support of the organization’s goals.

The Market Analyst will consistently demonstrate support of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab statement of Vision, Mission and Core Values by striving for excellence, contributing to the team efforts and showing respect and compassion for patients and their families, fellow employees, and all others with whom there is contact at or in the interest of the institute.

Principal Responsibilities

The Market Analyst will:

Corporate Planning and Business Development

  1. Conduct research on market-specific data including healthcare trends, provider (hospitals, physicians) information, competitor dynamics, demographic changes, legislative updates and other industry information.
  2. Investigate new business opportunities through primary and secondary research of publically available data sources, Shirley Ryan AbilityLab knowledge experts, market trends and competitive analyses.
  3. Report information using graphical presentations, written documents, and mapping of information and service areas.
  4. Access, maintain and update subscription databases (e.g., IL Hospital Association’s CompData, market planning products, etc.) to create reports in support of strategic intelligence function. Perform extensive quantitative analysis of market information to create meaningful strategic information for use by Shirley Ryan AbilityLab management and on department projects (e.g., Business Plans, Bed Planning Model).
  5. Create and/or manipulate access databases and create excel-based models using various types of statistical analysis (correlations, sensitivity analysis, regressions, @RISK modeling).
  6. Contribute as active member of business development teams, performing tasks as necessary to complete assessments within expected timeframe, including development of final business plan deliverables and associated presentations.

Referral Development

  1. Provide information on internal data including demographics, referral source, frequency and trends for patients at all Shirley Ryan AbilityLab sites and segments of care.
  2. Perform extensive analysis on internal data, aligning with market data and trends.
  3. Assist in updating and disseminating monthly “Goal Tracking” reports for all segments of care.

Advisory Services

  1. Participate on Shirley Ryan AbilityLab interdisciplinary teams to conduct due diligence work with potential client organizations, domestically and internationally.
  2. Perform analysis on client organization data and create presentations to internal and external audiences.
  3. Support project management activities of interdisciplinary teams focused on delivering high-quality written deliverables to clients. Over time, lead project management efforts for clients.

 

Decision Support/Strategic Intelligence

  1. Perform extensive quantitative data analyses for decision support process related to Shirley Ryan AbilityLab’s wholly owned and alliance sites/programs (including both market and financial data).
  2. Create periodic (monthly, quarterly, annual) reports as needed to support ongoing evaluation of the Institute by Shirley Ryan AbilityLab’s board and leadership team, including coordination and communication with various data sources.
  3. Effectively manage various other duties as assigned.

Perform all other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of Shirley Ryan AbilityLab.

 

Reporting Relationships

  1. Reports directly to the Executive Director of Corporate Strategy.

Job Requirements

  1. Bachelor’s degree required.
  2. One to three years of relevant work experience in healthcare analytics, consulting and/or marketing preferred.
  3. Experience collecting and analyzing data, generating reports, and conducting oral presentations. Use of statistical and spreadsheet packages, SQL server, web analytics strongly preferred. Graphics software and word-processing experience. Experience working in a Microsoft Windows environment.
  4. Strong analytical ability and problem solving skills required.
  5. Project management capabilities and ability to lead interdisciplinary teams is preferred.
  6. Creative and resourceful in approach to analyses and problem solving; affinity for finding unique ways to understand data, statistics, and information and to translate meaning via easy-to-understand communication.
  7. Detail oriented and ability to attend to accuracy in writing and compiling data reports and in designing, coding and implementing system functions.
  8. Strong interpersonal skills required to help identify user needs and provide direction for program (system) development.
  9. Knowledge of research methods, instrument construction, data collection techniques, database management.
  10. Knowledge of healthcare market (providers, payer’s) preferred.
  11. Resourcefulness, multi-tasking and critical thinking skills; ability to communicate effectively within a matrixed environment.
