General Summary

The Executive Director, Corporate Finance will provide strategic financial management to help ensure the long-term financial health of the organization through financial planning, budgeting, business development, investment and debt management and risk analytics. Establishes policies and procedures for achieving goals/objectives and monitors adherence to same. With the Sr. Vice President Chief Financial, establish and maintain positive relationships with financial advisors, bankers, bondholders, credit rating agencies, legal counsel and other key strategic partners.

Principal Responsibilities



The Executive Director, Corporate Finance:

  1. Provides strategic direction for financial analytics to support decision making related to payer strategies, risk/variation analysis, business development and related activities. Educates senior management and others on the financial considerations and risks for key projects and activities.
  2. Oversees the development, implementation, maintenance, and enhancements of business application systems, including internally and externally developed systems.
  3. Provides direction and oversight for the multi-year financial plan. Identifies key risks and opportunities and effectively communicate those to senior leadership and Finance Committee.
  4. Integrates the long range financial plan with the annual budget process.
  5. Provides strategic financial direction for business development opportunities as they arise, including market assessment, risk analysis and financial projections.
  6. Ensures compliance with loan covenants including financial reporting.
  7. Recommends actions to improve SRAlab’s capital structure, seeking opportunities to manage interest rate risk.
  8. Manages investment portfolio and aligns organizational needs with appropriate asset allocation addressing risk tolerances and return expectations.
  9. Partners with Managed Care Contracting and Revenue Cycle to help ensure appropriate financial performance of payer contracts.
  10. Coordinates and evaluates financial impacts and implications of all restructured corporations within the SRAlab organization, ensuring compliance with Board determinations and SRAlab policies.
  11. Supports the evaluation and due diligence process related to various strategic acquisitions and initiatives.
  12. Reports financial condition of the organization to Board Finance and Audit Committee and directs preparation of various reports which summarize the organization’s financial condition to interested parties and agencies.
  13. Manages overall performance, directly or indirectly, of all the employees within the department.
  14. Performs other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab including serving as a consultant to executive staff on specific finance-related issues and participating as a member of top management and a variety of committees.

Reporting Relationships

  1. Reports directly to the Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer
  2. Supervises the Director of Budgeting, Director of Financial Systems and Sr. Business Analyst

Job Requirements

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field, plus an advanced degree such as an MBA or MHA.
  2. CPA preferred.
  3. Minimum of 10 years of experience demonstrating an in-depth knowledge of the function area, business strategies, and the company goals.
  4. Experience in academic hospital setting is preferred.
  5. Knowledge of tax-exempt debt and related regulations.
  6. Previous experience with developing corporate and/or organizational policies and authorizing their implementation.
  7. Demonstrated ability of consistently working with abstract ideas or situations across functional areas of the business.
  8. Strong writing skills with the ability to explain complex ideas to diverse audiences with varying levels of expertise.
  9. Demonstrated experience with assessing intangible variables, identifying and evaluating fundamental issues, providing strategy and direction for major functional areas.
  10. Able to direct and control the activities of one or more functional or service area through managers who have overall responsibility for the successful operation of those assigned areas.
  11. Able to interact internally and externally with executive level management, requiring negotiation of extremely critical matters. Influences policymaking.
  12. Ability to prepare and communicate compelling, high impact presentations to senior leaders and Board
  13. Ability to interpret contract / legal documentation
  14. Ability to research, analyze and interpret complex data and formulate recommendations
  15. Understand of current and developing payment methodologies
  16. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel are necessary 

Working Conditions

  1. Normal office environment with little or no exposure to dust or extreme temperature.
